There is a book worth reading on the subject, T60...it's called "The World Without Us...by Alan Weisman... very engaging reading.. it covers the gamut of our society's impact on mother earth...and postulates the effects of our dependence on electrical energy and petroleum products to maintain our constructs. one of his most interesting chapters is about what would happen to New York City...and how quickly... great read.
