Great picture, I would have thought the palm was much smaller if you were'nt in it. Sounds like a wonderful time, wish my family reunions were so tropical!

Thanks everyone for all the wonderful comments! This palm grows absolutely HUMONGOUS! Actually, this specimen is very small compared to some of the other specimens at the Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden (translates as"To Make a Place of Peace and Tranquility") in Kaneohe, Oahu, HI. It is a palm native to very tropical South Inida. This palm cannot even be grown in San Diego, CA. (as far as I know)

Thanks! It was a wonderful, fun time...I didn't want to come home.

Now, I just need to adjust to the 3 hour time difference.

Sandra:

Thanks! I'll be posting many of my Hawaii photos soon.

This is a small tree...they grow to more than 100 feet/ 33 meters tall. When viewing a mature Talipot Palm in person...it is overwhelming.

id love one of the palm leaves...it would make an awesome decoration.

Sandra:

The fronds are so large and heavy...you probably would not be able to fit it in your house or carry it. No kidding.

Did you see that photo on the net of one growing in San Diego? In a palm fanatics front yard. Looked good..and the photo was taken in winter. About 20' overall.

No, I haven't seen it. Send me the link.

I've been more impressed with some of the really large, beautiful specimens I have seen of Pinanga kulii here in San Diego.
