These are my husbands favourite, wish I had room for one. Perhaps I would need Two?

this is a family pear tree, Bornagain,conference,williams and comice.all grafted together so its self fertile.you dont need loads of room.mine is about 5 foot wide and about 8 foot high.my mum bought it for me in memory of my old border collie Moss.

What conditions does it like and do you have to use insecticides or anything?

well ive got heavy clay soil and it does fine,i dont spray it with anything.i just let it get on with it.its about 12 years old now.

I have got a Conference pear tree, been in our garden about 20 years,and every year had a good crop.This year the pears are really big.Not very good at keeping them though, once picked.............any suggestions?

your right there,wasted quite a few last year,you could try keeping some in the fridge.i give loads away because they just dont keep,sorry i dont have any other ideas.

I have a pear, plum and two apple trees on order (should be here in Nov) as requested by my youngest for his 7th birthday present last June, Ummm, sounds to good to be true doesn't it, a wee lad with a good choice of present and prepared to wait 5 mths to get it?
Anyway you make it sound so easy I'm now quite hopeful for we are on wet clay acid soil and I can be pretty good at leaving thing to do their own thing, sounds a doddle Lol..
I want to put two trees just 'behind the shed' (photo) and two beyond the mown grass in 'Making a start' (photo). I'll have to pick your brains later on planting etc but in the mean time I'll dream of having more fruit than we can eat or store.

you will have to make sure you have apples that pollinate each other,and your pear will need to be a family pear tree or have another pear tree to pollinate it.if there are apples and pears trees growing already near by check to see when they flower and if yours flower at the same time they will pollinate each other and you will get lots of fruit.

Thanks Suey, I seem to remember them being self-pollinating so if we get the planting sorted out ok all should be well.
