A shot showing what the smoke was like, this unfinished cabin along the road is just in front of a hillside of homes with a south view....

Surreal -looking isn't it? We had fires up here in BC too.

We are only hours from numerous forest fires here in BC, and it seems that as soon as one is under control, another starts.

Hope you're not in any danger yourself, Greenthumb...

I'm safe where I am At. I'm glad your smoke has cleared Bernie. I'm not sure how Cnada deals with the fires, but here we don't try to control them. They just let it burn. It wqas very frustrating when conditions got like this.

In our area they have to control the fires because our mountains are so populated. If they only control around populated areas, they are controlling all of the fires (which is what they do.) We were camping near where some of the fires were just put out, and it was still smoky enough to make the mountains look hazy. Otherwise, there are only a few still burning in this area.
Aleyna - a smoky day is where smoke from a fire hangs in the air. A foggy day is when there is moisture in the air, like a cloud sitting down on the ground.

Thanks Aleyna. :-)
I'm glad the smoke is clearing there as well Mamegem. We've had days of rain to cut it down; Our air quality was such that people with health issues were being warned to stay in their homes. It was really very awful this year.

We are encroaching daily on wilderness areas and natural forests with our suburbs and developments. I'm as much to blame as anyone I guess, living on what was once a farmer's cabbage field. The experts do say that because we (in Canada) have not let Nature take its natural course and burn from time to time, when a fire does occur it's much fiercer because of all the undergrowth, dead trees and leaf/needle litter that have been allowed to build up. Just goes to show we are not in control. Perhaps we need to have controlled burns from time to time, probably impossible though to really control such a fire, you never know what the wind will do. The fires burning right now in California look horrendous... I do feel for those who have been evacuated and may lose their homes...

I agree Elke. I am glad to see the wildfires in forests left to burn more and only structures and such protected, even with all the smoke. California is a good example of what can happen when we don't allow natures course, it demands a hand. Inherently, the human will make a controlled space for itself and there is just more and more of us. But I do hope we learn to reserve localized natural worlds that have had ages of experience keeping themselves. I believe with our population growth, the need of the horticulturist (gardner) is becoming more and more apparant, to manage a natural system preserving a natural order that could otherwise be lost.

Know what this is like - we've had a bushfire blazing away for over a week now up in the hills behind us. There's been smoke all around us - luckily the wind changed direction yesterday afternoon and it cleared for a bit.
