Collared Dove

This Fledgling has been with us for 3 days now. It cant fly, and there is no sign of Mum anywhere around. I sits on the lawn during the day to bask in the sun and eat and drink and Ray puts it up on and Oak tree Branch at night......we are trying to keep it out of the local cats way and the magpies......

Thanks all, we are doing our best to keep he/she safe from prowling locals and Janey it does feed well. Waits for me to put seed and bread down on the lawn with some water and then plops down...It is trying to flex the wings, but cant make it back up to the tree.....

Nature can be a cruel Mother..........

I wouldn't panic....you obviously have the mothering touch and all should be well. I had exactly the same happen a couple of years ago and the parents appeared to abandon the squab to fate - and me! I did exactly as you have but I popped it into a shoe box each night and kept it in the garage and put it back out on the lawn each morning. About 4 or 5 days later I noticed one of the parents coming down to feed it...and that same day it managed to flutter back up into the big holly tree where I knew the nest was. Job done!!!
I am sure these collar doves know a sucker householder when they see one - and they were using me as a nanny!!!
Like You I dreaded the local cats coming into the garden during those days and the dogs and I kept vigil.....:>)))
