Dickie Dove

This is my little Dickie Dove. He was brought to me with just a few spikey feathers, a cat had caught him. I raised him on Parrot Rearing Food and have had him for almost 6 years now. Twice I have taken him to free him amonst the trees in the field and he won't go, walks behind me all the time, so he he is here for good. He lives with 21 Cockatiels, 6 Budgies, assorted Parakeets and two tiny Chinese Quail in my little bird room and flies amonst them LOL

Thank you all. I love him myself LOL. I actually think that 'he' might be a 'she' as occasionally one of the silly cock Budgies tries to mate with her. You can see by the feathers on the back of her head where the Budgie tries to hang on. Dickie soon gets rids of the little pest!! I think he must have got underneath a perch where somebody pooped on her feathers. Thanks Mac, I need to go in and update my site now, things have changed a lot.

It really is isn't it? I have to try and let Waif, my Pigeon go next Spring and I am dreading it. She is so tame and I love her, but she is a big, fine bird now and has laid me 14 eggs so far, I can't stop her laying, I shall make a pull downdoor on chains so that she can come back if she wants, but I have to let her take her chances where she can fly...........;o(

Oh but she may not go far Pam...especially if she knows you will be feeding her !

I pray not BB, we have so many Crows around here and I am worried they may attack her. I am so tempted to keep her, I've been putting it off, but they can live up to 20 years in captivity and she gets restless now, it is not fair to keep her in a cage, very large though it is. She's only just over 12 months old. Tommy I can't let go as he has a broken wing. He is so sweet, he is in love with a little Plastic Dove I bought for the garden. He takes her bits of straw, feathers and seed and puts it by her feet. If I take her away, he gets so upset, so there he is, cuddled up against his Dove love.............:o)

Just follow your instincts Pam and you wont go wrong ! Tommy sounds very resilient...and vulnerable at the same time. he would not survive long in the wild so I would just carry on as you are doing and giving him quality life.

Thanks BB. I have swung for letting her go and then not, back and forth. I did take her out, put her on my hand and then swing my arms up and down to make her spread her wings, but she had a good look around, flapped a lot and popped back into her place LOL. Tommy is an old bird and as you say, needs to stay here, he would die otherwise, he never is restless and I think it is his constant cooing to his Dove sets Waif off laying.,
