It looks gorgeous, now I want dahlias too:-) Are they perennial or do you have to store them ? or is that chrysanths? I used to have the bishop, but he left after a few years possibly too wet a winter.

Beautiful dahlias Deida ,do you have a name for the purple and white one at the back please....

30 Aug, 2009

Thank you Dawn

Thank you Bornagain..Dahlias which grow from tubers are generally tender perennials..the blooms are good for cutting.there are so many beautiful varieties.I lift mine before the first frost and store them in cool but frost free area over winter.well I keep mine in the shed.

Thanks Janette
the name for these lovely dahlias is (Tiger-red) The picture does't do them any justice.there are actually deep red and white

Hi Deida, How do you store them? do you wash them off or anything and what do you store them in please?

31 Aug, 2009

Hi Bornagain
first I label the tubers so I know the colour for next year.I use to wash them but I don't bother anymore... I just shake the soil off as much as I can and than place the tubers in big trays and cover these with bubble wrap..oh I forgot
to mention if I use plastic trays I put a little peat on the bottom so that the tubers don't sweat..I am not an expert but it works for me..

Janette is the dahlia expert.

Not any more than yourself Deida, but thanks for the mention :)

Thanks Deida, I'm going in for a re-vamp next year and this definitely includes dahlias :-)

This is a wonderful display Deida. Work well done. And a great collection. I'm slowly building up. About half of mine got to bloom before an early frost hit them a few weeks ago. Will store for next. I'll be storing some I don't even know the color yet! :-)
