I think there may be tiles under that lot!! I don't cut the trailing bits back unless they start to crawl across the grass - they look lovely amongst the shrubs!

My husband occasionally chops bits off where they trail over the garage door - but I like them - just like a red waterfall!

AHA.....just caught up with your pics and see what you mean....what a riot of colour that must be. My lot got a real hair-cut last autumn when I had to re-roof my garage (nothing to do with the creeper I may add - just old age ) so the show won't be so good this year but I like to let it run too....and just check it from blocking the gutters!!!!

Beautiful. This is a plant that can really 'work' for you. I had a friend with an average sized garden, with an old fifteen foot high hawthorn in the middle of the lawn. She had planted one of these at the base of the tree, which grew up and over, hanging like a fringed lampshade and in the autumn it was like it was switched on. I wish I had a photo, but I'm sure you can imagine what it was like ! ;~))

I can indeed - that's what happens to the front of the garage, with a 'shawl' effect, so the hawthorn must look wonderful! :-))
