Lavender is such a quintessentially 'English' thing, but it was first introduced by the Romans when they colonised England - they also brought ground elder with them ( they used it in salads! ) for which we cannot forgive them...but the lavender almost makes up for it!

not far Amy, its very close to york, we went to stay with friends for a weekend and went there, well worth the visit. thanks for your comment.

Yes the spiral makes a change from the straight lines you usually see lavender planted in
