Given to me today by Bjs.
I met him and his lovely wife Pauline at a garden centre halfway between us.
This Rudbeckia has a green eye rather than the usual brown one.

Thank you both :)
I'm chuffed to bits with it.
I've planted it at the other end of the 'yellow/white wave' of planting to the other one, so they make gorgeous 'book ends' in there.

I did wonder! Have you found it to be hardy, Dd??

Only bought it this year Spritz..........so no idea!!

I grew these from seed in the spring no mention if its hardy .
Dont know much about Rudbeckia are some tender or just grown as annuals, can someone tell me.

I've always known them to be hardy perennials BJ.
Do others agree ?

Some are fairly tender Bjs. They are all perennials but some varieties are hardier than others. For instance 'Irish Eyes' above may or may not survive the winter here in Kamloops. It is a zone 5 hardiness. There are some rudbeckias which definitely would be annuals here and some that thrive coming back year after year.

The Rudbeckia hirta cultivars, which this is, are classed as short-lived perennials, 'often grown as annuals' in my RHS book. They'll only survive mild winters, sadly, or of course in a sheltered mild area.
For the real toughies, there are R. fulgida 'Goldsturm', R. deamii and R. 'Herbstsonne'.

Oooo......I just bought R. 'Herbstsonne'. I love it. It can grow to 8 feet tall apparently.
