We sometimes get a couple of jumbos in the box, as here. I feel sorry for the hen...

Hi Stripes! Yes indeed, farm fresh eggs are wonderful. These big ones won't fit in my poaching cups or egg cups, so I use them for scrambling or baking. Whereabouts does your brother live, BTW? Have you visited?

I love fresh egg. I kept 60 red hens through growing up and sold them to the market. These big ones usually had double yolks.

Oddly, these big ones don't - a large yolk and masses of albumen though. And the shells are very fragile. My son has explained that, as all of them are fed the same diet, this is a problem with the particular hen's oviduct (not producing the hardening coat). Anyway, it doesn't affect the quality of the shell's contents.

I don't feel sorry for the hen as it is obviously the hen ostrich that layed them.
