Industrious Squirrel

Industrious Squirrel

We had one bringing over pinecones and pealling them apart like a cartoon eating corn on the cob, really amazing. The pile to the right is one he has already feasted on.

It was adorable! So focused it was like we weren't there, then he goes and finds another, comes back to the same spot and sits and eats it. So busy in the fall.

Are your squirrels red? the grey squirrel has def. taken over from the red here - they're still pretty & v. interesting to watch but it's so sad that the red has nearly disappeared.

These are reds. That is all we have other than the alaskan ground squirrel which is really quite different all together. I enjoy them in the woods but not by the house. Too noisy. Can't garden peacefully with one staring you down and chirping away,' get out of my place, get out of my place!' Sad to hear they are being lost there. The greys are so large, most territory squabbles are settled between squirrels by size.

awww he is so pretty, we get quite a lot of grey ones in our garden so we put up a squirrel feeder for them, they are so cute :o)

I don't encourage these cute as they are, they'll spend the day scolding you for going on their lawn, their garden, their porch. :-)

I've seen lots of grey squirrels here but where we used to live in the centre of Spain in the park just round the corner from us there there were plenty of red squirrels. As there were many pine trees in the park they seemed to thrive. (I think they were red but I'm talking about more than 15 years ago & I'm no longer 100% sure they were red!)

There is a small park right in the heart of town where grey squirrels are easily seen.

When I used to walk along the park beside the river on my way to work I often saw grey squirrels running up & down the trees or running across the grass.

You'd know the reds, they may not keep running, especailly in a tree, they would just chirp chirp chirp.......on and on until you went away and maybe not stop then...lol Very territorial.

I never stopped long enough near their trees & I was often out walking with my dogs in the park. as I was talking about a time at the least 15 years ago I can no longer be sure of my memory. But I do know that red squirrels like pine seeds more than the grays.
