i'm so pleased that they have come back after such an awefull winter last year.

Was there anything left other than stalk, is this all this years growth?

20 Sep, 2009

this one lost all its leaf growth in the winter. so yes this is all one years growth. ill be taking them into my new glasshouse when its finished.

Ah, they will love that! I had azaleas just disappear last winter and then came back strong to the same size in just this one season. Just amazing survivor stories. :-) Glass house, how exciting!

my partner Julian started it last year but ran out of funds after the foundations.... we have just been given eight windows that are perfect for the walls. we have had to buy concrete blocks and some wood but they weren't too much. not sure about the roof yet. but it is going to house all the aeoniums, we lost so many last year so it had to be done. yes it is all very exciting..

I'm planning clear corrugated roof sheeting for my greenhouse with bubble wrap layers inside to insulate. It does discolor after about 5 years, but costs much less. A strong wind can be violent with it though, as a warning.

i have a few sheets of corrugated steel left over from my big shed. so i think we will use some clear and some not clear sheets on the roof. the whole thing faces south and would benefit from a little shade.

Probably a good plan. I hear the greenhouses down there can get really hot.

but they cooldown fast . this is up against a block wall and a chimney ( the fire is on the otherside of the wall). we are hopeing that it will store the heat from the sun and keep it above freezing. but in the day it will get realy hot. the windows we have been given have loads of opening ones so we should bee able to keep it a bit cooler.

That'll help.. Sound like a good setup. I;m so used to cool, I'm amazed how happy plants can be in real intense heat, long as the air is circulating.

its definately about keeping the air moving.
