Amicia zygomeris

Amicia zygomeris (Amicia zygomeris)

It took me four years to track down this one! Woody-based perennial from Mexico for a hot spot in well-drained soil. Can reach seven feet in a season, mulch the roots well and it should take -10C over winter. The purple bits are strange growths at the base of the leaf stalks - no sign yet of the yellow pea flowers it should be carrying in autumn

Yep - a garden full of the unusual, I'd say. The leaves on this are as distinctive as Gingko, I think.
