Diadem (Garden) Spider

Araneus diadematus. Female over 15mm long. Adult specimens from August - October. Builds large, vertical webs and can lay 45 - 600 eggs wrapped in a yellow cocoon. The young hatch the following spring but do not mature for another year. Male woos the female by shaking its web.

Totally harmless - you'll probably have a few in your garden somewhere. They're actually quite soft & furry when you touch them! - Lol :-))

I have seen spiders(much smaller) with this marking. I don't mind this size so much and she has nice thick legs, not hair-thin so is quite sturdy...and you would notice it and not accidentally squash it, but I'll give the touching bit a miss if you don't mind. Great pic though:-)
