Bernie , Yes its a very beautiful native Hoya , Its just finished the third flush od flowers in the last 3 months . there were over 30 clusters of flowers hanging from my Oil Palm tree . a wonderful sight . One problem ,I had to get my garden man to prune 11 dead fronds from the oil palm which meant heaos of Hoya hanging from those fronds got cut off.I will get him to place lengths of the Hoya beside big trees .Once the Hoya has flowered it reflowers from that spot , so never cut the flowers off.
Hywel, Thank you for the Welcome . You sound like a very artistic person in many different fields. I was an artist before my stroke and now cannot use one side of my body . I learnt to use my left hand and can do scetching.
Milky , You are in a completly different area to me , I wish you luck with you Frangipani. When I put a new cutting in I expect it to leaf and flower within the year.
I don't know if this will work putting 3 answers on here one after the other as I'm new to this forum and if its not right please put me right .

It works perfectly Pitta - answering 3 people at once in your comment box as we all get to see it. It's a shame you lost so many heads of the hoya when the palm tree was tidied up - although those palms certainly don't look great with lots of dead fronds hanging off I know .. I have the same problem myself.

Gilli .Hi from Tropical Australia which is the opposite in climate to Canada .
You will see by my website our gardening is so different .
You may be new to gardening but you are on the right track already by putting organic matter into you ground. the 3 things you need to make good loam [ the best for all plants ] are Clay Sand and organic material .Keep turing these over in you patch and it will end up as friable Loam.

Pitta:
I've never seen a Hoya quite like this before...it's gorgeous!
It is very fragrant...like most Hoya species?
Welcome to GoY!

yes and this Hoya has the largest flowers of all Hoyas.

Pitta:
It sure looks like it...I've seen some large flower clusters, however, the flower themselves were smaller.
I've seen large Hoya carnosa vines in Balboa Park growing up into the palm trees...however, never saw flowers as dark purple as this species. It's spectacular. I would love to see if it's available for sale here. : > )
