Hi Chris...I'm in the process of putting all my plants on here...so that I can compile the list, and growth info...for my blog, which will be a biggie...and with maps etc... These seem to like just about anywhere in my garden but I fancy they are doing better with more sun than I gave them before... In the deep snow, over winter, the mice have been busy and I've lost some plants but they didn't touch my astilbe..thank goodness.

I love the movement of this plant's flowers in the breeze.!

I bought a pack of 4 recently, to split between the two gardens.
This week I have planted two at Shenstone ..... must get round to planting the other two in my garden soon.
The packet was marked 'mixed' colours, just as well we haven't got a colour plan in hand yet. I believe these are plants that the muntjac deer don't have a taste for, so we stand a reasonable chance of seeing what colour each plant is this year :-)

I love Astilbes, this pink one is a lovely colour. I leave them all through the winter before cutting them back in the spring as the "dead" flower heads are very attractive too esp in frost.

Might be the ticket, Jacque... I saw a variety of Astilbe that is called Diamonds and Pearls...It's white.. then there are really deep dark reds...and lots of pinks in between... lots to choose from...and the foliage is pretty too.
Brlpr2008: they bloom in June, the flowers are relatively long lasting but they're done by Mid July but the foliage is ferny and pretty. The seed heads ripen and are quite durable. Poppy is right about the seed heads they remain attractive in the garden last season I didn't cut them off...they are nice in dried arrangements..with a little glitter on them... around Christmas time!

Looks good. I've just planted a new red one. I've never grown this before so I'm hoping it likes our conditions.
