Gorgeous things. Hope they've got a really large enclosure - I always feel a bit sorry for elephants in captivity.

Lovely elephants... compare the feet with your pic of the Pony Tail palm....:o)

I guess these animals have plenty of space at the zoo, Delonix ?

Benieh:

Thanks! Yes, I usually feel sorry for the elephants also. This is thier new home "Elephant Mesa" which just opened this past May. It's several acres big...which is about 30 times larger than the old elephant area.

Terratoonie:

Do you think the real elephant's foot looks like the elephant tree?

Yes, Delonix ~
Definite similarities in the shape, textures and colours !

I'm sure the elephants enjoy themselves in several acres.:o)

Terratoonie:

I'm sure that's why several dozen of these trees were
planted in the Elephant Odyssey area.

Yes, the new Elephant Odyssey on elephant mesa is
very good for the elelphants...they seem much happier.

This reminds me of the elephant pavillion at the Metro Toronto Zoo...lots of space planted much like the high grasslands... but mostly bare earth...
good to see that zoos are finally clueing into habitat. These Asian elephants need stimulus...they are thinking animals!!LOL.
