Petite River in fall

It's a gorgeous view - we don't get autumn colours in my little spot of the world so I think this looks fabulous. Would love to be able to see it in reality - even if it's not up to the usual fall standard.

The best places are Vermont, Quebec and upper NY State, if ever you feel like a visit. Especially where there are maples, as they turn the best red. But we enjoy what we get here too.

We've had one frost so far Janey, and Patrick swore there were a few flakes late last night, but the days are warm and sunny still. We try to make the most of them, because it's a long time to wait until May...

Way back in October 1978 I went on a course for my job to Colony near Albany. One weekend I drove to New England, driving through Vermont and up into the Adirondaks. The scenery was absolutely beautiful. I had never seen and have never since seen natural colours like it. The weather was beautiful so I think I saw the colours at their best.

I'm sure you did Toto. We lived in the Montreal region for 35-odd years (yes, they were somewhat odd, ex-pats living in a French culture), and spent many weekends touring the Adirondacks, northern NY state and Vermont, at all times of the year. What a beautiful part of the world it is. Albany is a very interesting city architecturally too. Glad you have such happy memories of your time there.

I didn't see much of Albany as stayed in the Sheraton Hotel on Wolff Road at night but drove a little way to Colony each day to where the course was held and didn't return until the evening and if truth be known I doubt I would have liked Albany much anyway as I'm not a city lover.

There are some lovely old buildings there, beautifully restored, but in the 70s or 80s, they completely wrecked their waterfront by putting an elevated highway all along it. Now of course it's difficult to change. I'm with you on the city thing, but they're nice to visit on occasion. Our nearest is 2 hours drive.

2 hours away is far too close for my liking and that's from someone who lives in a country where you can drive from coast to coast in about 2 hours.

There's a lot of sea kayaking around here too, Bampy, especially around the as yet unspoiled LaHave Islands.
