New Phlox David under bottles.

If you look behind the pop bottles though, there are penstemon plants, but they are going woody at the bottom, thinking of taking them out and get some new ones, or does anyone think they will be ok, they are about 3-4yrs old so they may be past their sell by date.

I would leave them there cut them down as Morgana says Clarice , but I would take cuttings from them in case they don't survive the winter , actually I find that if you pin a piece down to the ground they layer quite easily , you will have new ones for the spring ..

I wouldn't cut them down until the spring though as the top growth protects the plant in cold weather. Then cut them back hard and they will sprout from the base. It's a bit late, but I'd still try some cuttings in your 'snuggery' in the greenhouse - in rainwater works well, see Terratoonie's blog about it.

Thanks everyone, i will take some cuttings as, see if they work, but Wagger i will try your way and cut down in spring.

If they are still flowering I would leave them just prune back a bit
