I've collected birch trunks from the property clearing my friend is doing to build a house. I haven't hung it yet because this gate is HEAVY! But soon. :-)

Thanks for the support. :-) I think it'll look great. I'm not sure if the weight is because the wood is green or just that it is so solid. It might pull over the doorway. :-) I'll delve into the spinach and get it up this weekend. :-)

will this keep out the deer GT? could be because it is just solid and heavy!~ good luck with it!

It would keep things out, but the whole fence and gate is just a facade, about 12 feet wide. :-) Just a screen to cover where I cultivate mulch and compost of the end of the garden. It effectively gave the garden space a nice 'finish' last year. The gate will complete it.

Oh I love the natural look of your gate...it will be even nicer as it weathers..and drys out..can you prop the gate on blocks as you hang it..?
Will be looking forward to seeing more of this gate...!

Thank you Cat. I love this paper birch. I just got it hung. I stood it on wood blocks. The fence will have to be shored up next spring to support the wieght, but I'm very pleased with it. I'm thinking of attaching old saplings I had to cut this year to the beds to grow vines and such up onto each side. I did that once with sweet peas, they were lovely bloooming in those old branches. I'll get some more pics posted.

Me too, my eyes must have looked eager as I watched my friend clear this from his property. I love to use all that stuff people just clear away. There is a whole other life to these materials.

LOL..I am the same way GT..I used to live in the woods, it was my dream to make everything out of reused trees...like this..I love the benches and trellises that are made like this..I think some are made of willows too..

I've debated on that too! Someday I will have a willow chair for the garden. Here they are hard to find long since the moose forage on the new stems each winter, so they are thick and stubby. I made a sauna out of fallen trees once, it was wonderful. Last time I'll build like that at a rental. Can't take it with you.

That looks great. Hanging doors and gates is always a difficult job - hope you have someone to help you.
