and Dawn this is facinating stuff.. you know i never actually saw this growing before... did you put it there, i am told you have to scrape off the bark of an apple tree and rub the berries into the wood is this the result of that?

Well, here's the story. Last year I put a question up about growing mistletoe. Amy very kindly put me onto a company that sell fertile, ripe berries. I had about 6. You select a host tree, apple being one of the best, squeeze the berries until the seed pops out, in thick sticky slime and wipe it onto the tree branch - a young branch that faces away from the morning sun and thats it. I think it simulates a bird eating the berry and wiping its beak to clean it The booklet didnt suggest cutting the tree branch. I have about 4 growing :-) Oh and netting and greasebands are suggested to protect against the birds and woodlice. LIke Amy says, dont get too excited, I think it will be many years before berries appear. I'm sure it would work by collecting berries from the ground after Xmas - that's how Amy did it.

Well done you .. the fact you got it going a major acheivement used to be so common now rarely see it wonder if it reflects changes perhaps in apple growing old established orchards being lost ?

I thought it was a frog at first..lol............how wonderful to have mistletoe growing...............

Thanks BB/Holly. Its a shame but you dont see it much these days, do you. I've noticed some high, high up in a big tree in the next village. I think the chances of collecting berries that fall are a bit remote.

Good luck with yours and good luck to you Amy with yours. I visit Worcestershire occassionaly with a friend and there is lots of wild mistletoe growing there.

Never seen this before very interesting. It's very alien like isn't it.
