It is famous to that state, as a native. This is a hilside just above the family ranch, extablished in the late 1800's by my great grandfather.

Thank you. They are lovely things. I've seen them along the highway and wondered what the white bloom was, I seem to visit during their season. :-) This time I got to go up to them and get a good look at the beauty and identify it.

Certainly a very lovely Lily! I thought at first it was a spotless Tiger Lily! I've grown Tiger Lilies in the past & this one looked very much like them but in pure white & without the black spots.

It is very tiny Balcony, compare to any others. More the size of a large campanula bloom. I've another from the side I should post just to exhibit the difference.

Calochortus nuttallii, the Utah state flower. When I found the scientific name , I discovered it was named the state flower partly due to being the food source for many early Utah pioneers during hard times. Also called the mariposa lily.

Isn't that interesting...there is a camas lily that the Native Americans ate here as well, I wonder if they are related...

hummmm..nope sounds like not..they both grow in Idaho , but the Camas lily Camassia leichtlinii is more prevalent here and in southern washington. and it has a light blue bloom..has a bit of a garlic smell to the bulb..I seem to remember.
