You're right Morgana, it sounds great when the winds blowing. This is no trouble either where it is, next to the brook. I've been looking at this photo and a gunnera would look nice set in front, dont you think - the 2 contrasting leaves would maybe compliment each other.

I think it would look wonderful and yes they would compliment each other.

He he Eileen, you never know, they may be in there already.
The lovely thing with bamboo is that its evergreen of course, so a good screen.
Sandra: You can get some beautiful smaller bamboos - I fancy the black one but too expensive for me.

I like the idea of the Gunnera Dawn. I have the black bamboo and I only have a tiny garden. It wasn't that expensive either but I did only buy a small one. It is now about 6ft high and has formed a clump of around 3ft.

have you a pic of that toto plez :o)

I have the black one, kept it in a pot for years, now in the garden, and like Toto our garden is very small, it is easily kept under control.

Thanks Toto, I'll set a clump of gunnera in front :-) Will need John to split a root :-) So Toto/Dotty, you recommend the black bamboo then? I'm pleased to hear its not extortionately priced.

Hello Janey - yes, they are very therapeutic to be around :-))

I'll try to remember to sort a pic of it after the wedding Sandra. Like Dotty I had it in a pot for a few years and it did next to nothing but once planted in the garden it started to grow but as Dotty says it is easily controllable.
