Fatsia in full bloom

The main problem is, now its grown so high, my neighbours have more flowers to see than I do. It's a lovely sight from my bedroom window though, this photo does not do it justice:-)

Its produced a wonderful display of flowers, lol at least your neighbours cant say you don't share

I can understandhow you are feeling as my next door Neighbour has one in her garden which is full of flowers that are all on my side of the fence and look fantastic!

It looks lovely Bornagain :) I have one, just outside my back door and it's full of flowers, and swarming with hoverflies, stocking up on the late pollen I suppose. I love to use the leaves in flower arrangements, and the flowers for Christmas decoration. It's one of those plants that I wouldn't be without :)

Dry them and spray them is what I would do.

Do you use them too Morgana? How do you dry them? Wouldn't it be a good blog if someone showed how to make Christmas decs and then others could contribute their ideas in the comments. All i've ever done is spray allium heads or hogweedy heads gold or silver which I have found dried on the plant in the garden or on walks:-)

You cut them off get some string wrap aroung them and hang them up side down in your kitchen or some where else. I normally dry mine in the kitchen.

You can do it just as they are dieing off lol you can also do this with the allium flower too.

Morgana's advice is great, just hang the flowers up to dry them....then they can be sprayed silver or gold.
I like to use fatsia flowers "fresh" for Christmas decorations....the flowers should last on the plant until then....I just cut them and wire them on to trails of ivy for my mantlepiece, or wire them onto the door wreath.
As for "flower arranging"....well, I'm hopeless at it but really enjoy playing about with flowers and foliage from the garden. Fatsia leaves last for ages in a vase, or in oasis, and look great just with an ordinary bunch of supermarket flowers, or a simple bunch of daffs...

I really must have a go at all this artistic stuff maybe do a christmas table decoration. Where do you cut them? in one pic I've seen, the individual flowers seem to have been separated off from the flowerhead or panicle whatever?? Have you any pics?

Boo hoo, why isn`t my fatsia flowering, this makes mine look very paultry.

Ha! Or to put it another way, when did you prune it? Where I've cut it right back there are no flowers, but it's such a monster it would take over my little quarry patio. I let it grow tall against the fence for privacy. There must be a right time to prune, but I don't know it:-)

I'm getting nervous! Mine was very well behaved and not too high but planted under an enormous privet hedge. It got supplanted by my summerhouse and I've just bought and planted a healthy new one in a better location. Is it going too outgrow its space???

Mine's been in some time now and doesn't seem to mind quite drastic cutting back. In fact where it's cut back hard, the leaves are fresh and magnificent. I let it grow tall for privavy, but do have to give it a good cut, which is very easy to do as it's quite sappy, once or twice a year to keep my little patio open:-)
