Hippeastrum 'Lady Jane' (Hippeastrum papilio (Butterfly amaryllis))

My favorite houseplant
Hippeastrum. An ideal plant for people who keep forgetting about their plants - doesn't really require a lot of attention. This one is a special for me - I have found it when I moved into the rented house in April 2007 - it was left by the former tenants - so I took it home gave it a lot of love, just a little bit of water, not too much of fertilizer. and after a while it showed me a little flower bud coming out. When it stopped flowering I just cut the flower stem 3-4 cm above the bulb and slowly let it go to sleep - I mean decreased the amount of water and 'thrown it out' (lol) into the garden for litlle summer holiday:) But seriously - this is the way you should treat it - take it out into the garden in summer - leave it there - in autumn you can take it back and start take care of it again. It usually should flower around Christmas - I mean once a year - well mine is a little bit more vigorous and it flowers twice a year... I guess it is just showing me how grateful it is for saving its live few years ago, haha
