Sixpence:

Yes. The top blew off the tree third from the left during the intense El Nino storms in Jan. of 2010.

Will it grow back if not will they cut it down.

Sixpence:

Once the top broken off...it can never re-grow back. The trunk was cut down.

I and others complained to the city about these 100 year old trees which were never pruned back before the El Niño storms came (they're usually pruned every year in late summer). They weren't pruned because of city's budget cutbacks. This part of Balboa Park has many tourist...and it was a huge liability to have the trees and their heavy fronds falling down. I disliked the fact that these historic trees were blowing over and in many cases it could have been prevented.

It was very funny...because after mine and many peoples' complaints most of these trees were pruned...even though I was told there was no money in the city's budget.

Its shameful is nt it Andy to let the ancient trees go to pot, as for money cuts they say the same here can't afford this and that, children can't eat properly, parents can't afford bills, banks won't lend to small business, yet we the people bailed them out, what a load of bull.... but can find almost 18,000 to top up the house of commons wine cellar. The local councilors here get paid double if not trebble what mps get paid, for doing nothing, yet their jobs are still secure.

It's very shameful! That's politics for you.

I can imagine how many poor people can be fed with £18,000. That's a major disjustice to the people!

It is when the sit on bums giving orders, to the civil servants to do all the work, and there is people hard grafting on very low wage can't afford to have heat on or feed their children properly and oap dare not put heat on during winter having to sit in their coats , hats , jumpers, gloves in their homes.

Wow...that's horrible! It must be terrible for people not be able to feed their children nor use their heaters. Hunger has been a big problem hear in San Diego also...so many people are unemployed.

The same over here for unemployment, my daughter she works and some time s for 4 days she can't afford to feed her 4 children and husband, with bills etc as the goverment sold off to private sector the gas etc facilities, they keep putting the prices up and up and up, then if you can't afford to pay they come to arrangements to pay if you miss one they take you to court, and on top of say £60.00 owing on a bill , it becomes £360 pound for court cost plus the bill and they don't notify you either.

Wow! It's such a tragic catch 22 situation! I get very upset when I hear stories like this (and I hear them all the time here).

California is a state which is in a severe financial crisis. The prices and taxes keep going up...and so many social services are being cut drastically. It's horrible!

Our SDG&E (San Diego Gas & Electric) bills went up 22% in Jan 2010. I can't understand such a huge increase...when no one is getting this large of a percentage increase in their salaries...and in most cases people are getting decreases in their salaries or work furlough days. It's very crazy!

Its the same here as you have there Andy even the price of food has gone up, but like you say not the wage, yet they can afford to send millions in aid to foriegn countries, I was chatting to an Indian Siek the other day, he himself disagreed with aid being send out, he said, why are they sending to Pakistan and India they should nt he goes out to India and said as in Pakistan and India yes there are poor patches he said but there are very rich bussiness men out in both countries loads of them, and niether country is poor like it use to be why are nt them that are very rich over there doing some thing and putting money into their own country, aid is nt needed if they did, so its all a scam to make the rich richer business and the poor poorer, especial those working a low wage.
