Do you have any cycads growing outside
where you live? There's many hardy species
which tolerate quite low temps. and cool
condition...they usually just grow very
slowly...which is the case anyway. : > )

i do have one which clings on for dear life...it never has more than four fronds. a new one grows regularly but as soon as it does one dies back...i do admire its perseverence...lol these cones look amazing.

We have a Encephalartos altensteinii here at Kew; which is supposed to be the largest pot plant in the world. Its an amazing plant, google it.

Sandra:
Many Encephalartos species are very hardy...however, they need
consistantly high temps. to get them growing well.
Rbtkew:
It would be nice to see a photo of the Encephalartos altensteinii
at Kew. I will post some pics of Encephalartos altensteinii
growing outside in the ground at the San Diego Zoo...there's
several.
