mine too, its full of new buds but i fear the coming cold spell will put paid to those :( Its my first year with this plant, is it supposed to have berries?

Is this quite hardy.? I had one once and kept it in a pot so that I could bring it into shelter in the winter. I'm not sure if it died from being pot bound, or from cold.

It doesn't produce berries, Ww. The reaction to the frost we had was interesting - the flowers closed up! I thought they'd died, but no, back they came!

No, it isn't reliably hardy, Hywel - it doesn't like hard frosts, but I was lucky and it survived last winter.

Thanks Spritz, re the berries - the label on it must be wrong. The garden centre (a reputable one, Frosts) had the plant in the 'half-hardy' section, but people have had them round here for years and not lost them. Its grown so much in its first year :))

Yes, mine did too - I cut it back by about two-thirds, but it has taken off over the back fence, into the field behind us - and is battling with the brambles and nettles there. I reckon I know which is winning, as well! LOL.

I know that people have lost them in hard frosts - Andrewr did in Berkshire! I have mine in a sheltered area where it gets the sun (haha) for most of the day.

I'm learning LOL the fact that starter plants are cheaper, unless you keep them potted up for a couple of years, they can be a false economy.

Yes, I'm sure you're right, Grindle. It can be done, of course, but you have to have somewhere to keep them in the meantime, as well!

Wild? How wonderful! I have a mauve one - S. crispum 'Glasnevin' which flowers much earlier. I do know they're toxic, but I don't eat them, so that's OK!! LOL.
