Biggest late fall storm in decades hits San Diego, CA. with torrential rains (which we need) and 60 mph/ 97 km/h winds causing widespread damage in the county. Who says we don't get exciting weather sometimes. LOL! : > )

Wow - looks like it was quite severe. I know something about these sort of weather patterns myself - you can never be certain just what might happen. Hope the damaged plants come back for you - at least you got some rain!!

Bernieh:
Yes, we were blasted for more than 12 hours with
gale-force-winds which is very unsual...most of the
time when we have storms they only last a few hours.
I really felt sorry for the people who had their cars
smashed by tall Eucalytus and Queen Palm trees!
However, not too many people are complaining because
we needed the rain badly and received from 1.5 - 3 inches.
We are suppose to have another rain storm on Thursday.
I'm looking forward to it. : > )

Hopefully it'll just be the rain and not the gale force winds!

It is only suppose to be rain this time...we'll see. : > )

What a pity so much damage was done... but the rain has helped ease the drought...

Terratoonie:
Luckily we don't have damaging storms very often.
We still need a lot more rain...which we are suppose
to have Thursday - Sunday...then next week will be
warm and dry again.

If there are floods, please photograph for my GoYpedia Flood Damage category... thanks...
...not that I'm wishing floods on anyone ! Lol

Terratoonie:
One issue about living in San Diego is...drizzle can
cause flooding here...our drainage infrastructure here
is not very well engineered. I'm assuming it's because
we receive so little rain per year. However, when we have
an El Niño -- like this year...we can receive almost twice
the amount of normal rainfall.

Sandra:
It only damaged a lot of my plumeria plants...and
many huge branches broke off my Jacaranda and
Norfolk Island Pine. There's literally Norfolk Island
Pine seeds all over the yard, and three doors down
the street.
The plants did receive a good watering....and we have
2 more storms coming in late tonight (Dec 10, 2009)
through Sunday. I am so happy about this! : > )

WOW!!! I can't believe you are still being blasted by
big storms still...it just boggles my mind! I hope you
get some nice and mild summer weather soon! Take
care and stay safe.
It sure did. LOL! This was the biggest storm I've
experienced since I've moved to San Diego...which
has been 10 years.
The big storm that hit us here in Southern California
turned into one of the largest snow blizzards to hit
2/3 (central and northern and east coast) of the U.S.
in years also. Unfortunately, it has killed many people
along the way. : > (

Andy,
I'm sorry to hear about the people .. :o(
The storm here hit the 120km/h winds and many houses where simply destroyed... we lost people here too, unfortunatelly

Aleyna:
WOW!!! That's just unbelievable! Was it a hurricane?
I've always read that the South Atlantic Basin doesn't
generally get hurricanes...however, this sounds like one.
We had another big storm here on Sunday (Dec. 12, 2009)
We virtually never have 2 such large storms so close
together...however, if it's going to happen -- it's going to be
during an El Niño year. This last storm wasn't as strong as
the one on Dec. 7th. though. Today the weather is clear,
dry and warming up again...our typical weather. : > )

Many of my plants were damage or completely
destroyed by the very intense storm which hit us
Dec. 7, 2009. I have a mountain of Jacaranda and
Norfolk Island Pine branches in my front yard.
