Medinilla is an extremely tropical genus...this is the only species which will grow outside in San Diego...as far as I know. Medinilla magnifica - Philippine Orchid is a much more showy plant with large pink bracts around the flowers when blooming. Most species of Medinilla can only be grown in a very hot, humid greenhouse.
