If thats a young plant...how tall does it get at maturity? does it get a very big root system?.....was just thinking its very near to the house......

Louise1:

Thanks! Coronado Island is located across San Diego Bay...and is only a 15 minute drive from my house. It's a very upscale, wealthy community...and a huge tourist location...and I go there as often as I can...which isn't often enough.

Coronado Beach is usually voted in the top 5 or 10 best beaches in the U.S. every year.

Amblealice:

Giant Fishtail Palm grows to enormous proportions...it's usually not suited to most gardens...not unless you have at least an acre lot. I have posted some larger specimens at the San Diego Zoo. One frond from this tree can be as large as a small house...no kidding.

The root system is relatively small for such a large tree...and can be blown down in high winds. It's native to tropical rain forest where it's normally protected from strong winds.

I'll be there asap Delonix ;-)
