Gee it a pain, all the needles of it cover the bottom of mine and all the gardens that are round it, but on saying that its full of wildlife.

I had one just like this at the bottom of my garden - had it taken out end of 2008 and gained about an extra 20ft at the end of my garden!! Got a veggie patch in there now. Your right that the wildlife liked it - the starlings used to roost in it, which is why I had resisted removing it for many years. I don't miss it tho!! lol

It would'nt be so bad if the owner of the property its on cut it to a reasonable size. But as its rented alot of the private landlords are'nt bothered.

You are quite within your rights to cut off overhanging branches, so long as you offer them back to the landlord or, I suppose, the tenant. Tho this doesn't help much if said branches are 30ft up the tree?! lol

I've been on to the council about it, but after christmas i know quite a lot of the folks round us would like it gone or cut down to reasonable size so going to get some names of everyone and take it into council.

Go for it, Clarice and if that doesn't work, try and get your local councillor to intervene. I am not a great one for 'high up' politicians but our local ones have come up trumps for me several times :)

I think it's right that anything growing your side can be cut back to boundary as long as you toss the cuttings over their side or give them back. Not 100 percent sure but I have cut back other peoples growth on my side and let it fall over. Talking to the people concerned generally helps.
