Does this have berries. It would suit my garden since it is small

Never seen any yet Hywel,

Maybe you need a male and female like the more common ones

Hywel, i got one of these holly plants last year the garden centre told me the plant was male and female and only needed the one, this is the first winter i've had it but no berries, wondering if it takes a few winters for the berries to come.
mine is a good 2-3ft .

Sorry I can't find that on the net, Carol, to check if it's male or female. Is it supposed to be a dwarf one?

Stephen - that's a really lovely little Ilex you have there.

Yes they are Barbara, I have a few more in the collection, all look pretty much the same at this stage, except Ilex crenata 'Pagoda' which really is a lovely individual little Holly.

Are you going for 'National Collection' status on Ilex as well, then? LOL.

P.S. Can't remember the most recent name of this....I know they've changed it!

Perhaps I exaggerated a bit Barbara, let's say I have a very small handful of dwarf hollies.
Sorry, should have been Ilex crenata 'Dwarf Pagoda'...can't locate it in the RHS Plant Finder though.

Nor on 'google'!

Plenty on 'google' ...that is the 'Dwarf Pagoda' ?

I like this!

Only nursery that seems to have it in RHS Plantfinder is this one in Northern Ireland: Victoria's Nursery & Garden, Cahirceveen, Rep. of Ireland.

Wonder if it's male or female?

Bs - it was Carol's 'Homebird' I was trying to track to see if it was a male or femle for her - I can't find it. Any thoughts?

10 Jan, 2010

Steve - found the Victoria Nursery website but nothing on it as yet regarding plant listings. If you are interested you can google Horstmann Baumschulen, there are one or two listings for dwarf hollies there. I also have 'Horstmann's Mini' and 'Green Minaret', all look similar as young plants, but by the miniature size of the leaves, I think they will prove to be some of the dwarfest hollies around. Horstmann also lists one called 'Super Mini, which he says is the smallest of all....fascinating little plants I think !
Barbara - I cant find a listing anywhere for Ilex Homebird. Not in the Plantfinder or on the web.

Barbara - were you referring to an Ilex 'Homebird'.. or have I got the wrong end of the stick here...??

10 Jan, 2010

That's what Clarice (Carol) said - read her comments above! Maybe she's got the name wrong - or I'VE got the wrong end of the stick??

10 Jan, 2010

Sorry Barbara, completely missed Carol's comment above, but still can't find a listing for 'Homebird'

10 Jan, 2010

No - nor could I, which is why I hoped you might know it. Do you think the seller put the wrong name on it - or maybe C. has the wrong name in mind....??

10 Jan, 2010

Just checked again on all the major sites including European..nothing on 'Homebird'...?

We'll have to wait for her to log on and ask her.
