Tell me a little more about your agave Sandra..is it the kind they use for herbal sort of things? It is very nice looking. Is it a large plant I cannot tell from the photo...
4 Jan, 2010
its about eighteen inches across...not sure of its uses...its an agave victoria
4 Jan, 2010
It is quite a good size...does it bloom then?
4 Jan, 2010
I have to look to see if this is the same agave that is used as a sweetener.
4 Jan, 2010
Nope the sweetener comes from the same agave cactus as the nectar used for tequila...agave tequilana....hmmm...

Another plant I'm worried about losing in this awful weather, Sandra.
5 Jan, 2010
Rbt. my agaves seem to be laughing at the weather.......the ones in the shed that is . i hope the ones planted outside survive......where are yours kept in the winter?
Cat i have the teuila agave...theres a few growing outside around here...its a grey/blue one....i didnt know they used it as a sweetner...
5 Jan, 2010

Hi Sandra:)
Thanks for the Echeveria - even when I put the picture and then compared with other pictures of sempervivum - wasn't sure if it is a houseleek or not. As you told me the flowers are different. Next time will do more research before I will write something:)

its so hard sometimes to identify plants Okasia...i have terrible trouble with my aeoniums....plants grown in different places develop in different way. my succulents and cacti look so different when i see pics of them growing in their native environment...

Sandra:
It look great...it definitely loves the spot! : > )
28 Jan, 2010
have u seen this type of agave growing out there Delonix? it an agave victiria regina...
28 Jan, 2010
Sandra:
There's thousands everywhere. I think I have taken photos of Agave victoria-reginae in the past. They are native just to the south of us in Mexico.
I'll take some photos of some blooming soon for you. : > )
28 Jan, 2010
yes please....;-))
28 Jan, 2010
I bought a bottle of the sweetener yesterday...very nice...honey like but not the same taste...it is the same viscosity....
28 Jan, 2010
i have never seen it for sale Cat.
28 Jan, 2010
Sandra:
I think some of my neighbors have Agave victoria-reginae in their yards.
If I'm not mistaken the flower spike is very thin and the flowers very small.
I'll post some photos soon. : > )
29 Jan, 2010
il look forward to it..;-))

I like the sweetener Sandra..it is really not bad at all. Less can be used in place of sugar and it has a lower glycemic index so works with my low carb eating that I prefer. Helps reduce debilitating headaches I have had most of my life if I watch it, I do fall off the wagon and have to eat goodies every so often...so if I can find ways to cut back on a normal basis it helps.
29 Jan, 2010
im glad it helps Cat. .my sister has tried everything to rid her of her migranes....
29 Jan, 2010
I have had my headaches for over 30 years...mine turned out to be Ice Pick headaches or a type of cluster attack thing and I take a very powerful anti-inflamatory (Indomethacin) that pretty much stops them..but I still have to be aware..No MSG, NO sulfites, low sugar..natural sugars of some sort are best...but not the refined sugars....more fat's if you can believe that...I get migraines as well. But not so often...Have just been through a bad cycle of them..but am coming out of it now...thankful I have come this far...was debilitating for years.
29 Jan, 2010
my sisters are awful..she tried so many different things, shes had them all her life...
29 Jan, 2010
... mine are triggered by strenuous exertion and then on comes the dreadful nausea, vomiting and horrific pounding pain :-(((((((((((((((((((((((((
I lost 7Ibs with this last one :-/
29 Jan, 2010
She should ask the Dr. if she can try the indomethacin or Indocin it is called either name..it was a miracle thing for me..I had about given up and was in so much pain..I could not work or function at all..I lived with ice packs and pain killers ..was no way to live..
29 Jan, 2010
Louise...I am so sorry you have to have this too...it is a miserable thing..
terrible way to lose weight too...
does none of the medicines Iike Imitrex etc..work for them..it did not work for me ....it seemed to cause rebound headaches ..as well as the same with any
Tylenol products... Indocin is really the only thing that touches it. So glad for it..
29 Jan, 2010
Louise my sisters go on for days too and she cant look at food.....i luckily have only had a few headaches in my life but after watching my sister both u and Cat have my sympathies.....i will pass your info on to my sister Cat...thanks.
29 Jan, 2010
Good Sandra..I do not like to think of others suffering ...it is so awful to have this sort of pain in your head..it affects your total being so much..hugs to your sister and you too..Louise..it is terrible to know that even getting very happy news can trigger a week of pain..it is so crazy..
29 Jan, 2010
Cat, no painkillers touch it and like you, i have to go to bed .... just can't hold myself upright, can't lift myself off the bed .... yes, a lousy way to lose weight - i hate being sick :-((((((
29 Jan, 2010
ive sent the info to her...;-))
29 Jan, 2010
:) I hope so much it helps her Sandra...
29 Jan, 2010
i just spoke to my sis..she says at the moment shes taking beta blockers and fingers crossed it seems to be holding them off...
29 Jan, 2010
yes I take a beta blocker too..but it did not work well enough..so have to take the indocin for break through pain...my brother takes beta blockers as does my Sis..he and I for headaches..her for anxiety attacks...glad it is helping your Sis...it seems to help my brother a lot too...I have never had high bp...so it is strange to have to take it.. drops my bp very low sometimes..but I seem to be ok with that..
29 Jan, 2010

30 Jan, 2010
