Ponderosa is common in the forest here, but this one on the rim of the canyon has been neturally bonsai'd, well for a ponderosa it is small.

Is that caused because it`s roots cannot spread far.......

It is due in part to the roots having nowhere to go on this rock face and also due to the lack of water retention on the stone, it only gets quick drinks as a rain rushes past.
