We do the same thing over here right now at the tail-end of summer ... keep our fingers crossed that certain things will make it through the high humidity levels and the extreme heat and harsh sunlight. Just like you with your winters! So far .... a couple of the regal pellies have given up completely! Glad to see this beauty came through for you.

I'm glad it survived Sandra; I think I have lost my only specimen, the pot was frozen solid despite being covered in fleece. It was the hard frost that has caused most damage here in London, I wish we had more snow to act as insulation.

It.s looking good Sandra, albeit all that freezing weather we've had. I think I might leave one on the ground this year, and see what happens.......... As for my fuchsias, they were doing very well indeed, but not anymore, will wait and see............ :-)

its too soon to tell with fuchsia...they sprout from deep inside the plant after frost...

18 Jan, 2010

Yes you're right Sandra, I've had fuchsias looking completely dead, sometimes well into the growing season, then little shoots and off they go. I left a few specie ones in pots outside this winter, so it's a question of wait and see.

Sandra:

It must be a good feeling to know this plant will tolerate snow...and survive.

The plants in Balboa Park have the flower spikes out...I would guess in a couple of weeks they should start to bloom.
