Wild Manzanita: Southern Utah

This is the nice dark red hardwood trunk of a manzanita bush. Really a lovely slow growing shrub, overharvested for the wood but protected now in many cases.

Thank you Sandra. Winter is going fine. The light is warm and returning though the temperature hasn't caught on at all. Few things are blooming in the house though, my winter brightners. I've got pics I must load....lol.
Janey, I hadn't known it for apples at all and a quick search, it spanish name is little apples. Its an archtostaphylos. I just know it has this lovely wood color and grows wild in the southeastern US deserts. Have you had this before?

No, Gt.....just the name, I was wondering if it was a type of wild apple....but maybe it's the leaf that resembles little apples......:o)

I did look it up and it gets little red fruits, thus the name little apples. Looks like there are wines and jellies from them as well. ALways more to know. Thanks. :-)
