Full Moon: 01/29/10

Here is my shot of the Moon and Mars last night, caught my attention as it seems to have many others. What a great sight to see.

Great shot GF well done, the brightest moon with Mars at 1oclock.

1oclock. I'm guessing the other is Venus, but don;t take my word for it.

Thank you both.

how come we live on opposite sides of the world but can enjoy taking photos of the same thing.....you were luckier than me as mars kept comming out blurry on my pics...but wasnt it awesome to look at....;-))

Yes its Mars, If you look at my picture, which was taken day before yesterday, its the closest star to the moon, its underneath in mine, but Milky's last night was above the moon so yes that if Mars. An astrologist came on the radio and said it was Mars, also the moon is so bright because its closest to the sun and earth at the same time, where the sun is reflecting its light onto the moon. Mars does look like a star, it did when I took my picture, but when I uploaded it came out like this.

Beautiful photo Greenthumb and your Mars is clearer than mine was.....

Thank you. :-) I've picked up a tiny inexpensive tripod for night shots, neccessary for the elusive aurora borealis, but it makes a huge difference in the clarity of these night shots. I think it was $6. I learned of Mars from your shot Sixpence, and I think the trailling white one is Venus but I'm no authority. This moon sure is one especially powerful one. I work with people and everyone seems a little on edge. Of course this time of year in Alaska, alot of people start getting a little worked up and strange. :-)

it must be all that sunshine u had yesterday....;-))

That is definately part of it. This is when you see people running around in shorts and doing crazy stunts. More due to cabin fever and the long dark. Right now the moon keeps you from sleeping.

Well done excellent shot, lucky to have picked up mars as well, I think I will have to invest in a tripod, when I took the moon I was so cold my hands were shaking.

Thanks. Tripod is real handy, especially night shots where I get blur. Still working for better though. Gotta get those northern lights.
