The blackbirds are the ones who enjoy the cake the most and it looks like word has got around because most days I get up to a dozen blackbirds fighting to feed on it. During the hard, snowy days a couple of weeks ago I counted twenty one blackbirds in and around the garden.
I make the cake with a mixture of different seeds, suet, flour, crushed nuts and sultanas, then stir in water and microwave for about twenty five minuits.
At the moment a cake this size lasts for about three days but during the hard times I had to make one every day, A great bit of my weekly pension goes to feeding the birds but its worth every penny.

Yes Tanny..our birds probably eat better than us....but they are worth it and we do our best. This weather they are enjoying chopped up cooked potatoes as well as lard mixes with pastry and sultanas mixed in.
