These trees are grown here like weeds because they are so very drought tolerant. This Paperbark tree's trunk was taken in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. on Feb. 13, 2010.

Not sure how old this tree is...although, next to this tree is about a dozen or so 60 foot / 19 meters tall trees with large trunks. These trees are very common and seem to grow very quickly.

On my next trip to the park...I'll take a closer view of the trunk. I may also take a photo of the sheets of bark...which is like a soft sponge.

Love the paperbarks! This tree looks like it might be quite old.
