lol amy, wish there was an easier way but without my grass getting churned up with a digger or grinder i will do it this way, takes time but im sure will get there in the end :o) did it come out easy with that method amy?

When I moved into my last house there was a whole row of 'trees' along one boundary and no fence. A group of Hell's Angels with 3 bull terriers (various sorts) moved next door and everyone felt sorry for me. They needn't have worried - they cleared the trees and stumps, the dogs were adorable (they were frightened of my tortoises!). I was sad when they moved after a couple of years.

thats great Gee, i always say never judge people by apearence, i never do, treat people like you expect to be treated, glad they helped you, you should have a sign "beware tortoise" lol

Oh no Sandra, this is the sort of thing we often deal with. Good luck.
Love your story Gee - like Sandra says, you can never judge a book by the cover. I've found that people that look offensive are usually very nice.

It'll be worth it Sandra. The soil looks great btw

They needed to be dug round first to get a hold of the lower end but then they pulled out fairly well San ...

it wasnt easy as there wasnt a main trunk as normal amy, just laying almost flat to the ground as you see them, also covered with dumped ground and allsorts of rubble buried, a mess basicly lol

Hi Sandra, am I right in thinking these are Leylandii stumps ? They tend not to be too deep but do radiate out in all directions - they're a pain to dig out but worth the effort in the end. Be sure to put some goodness back into the soil, well rotted manure or compost, 'cos the Leylandii will have sucked it dry. Don't forget, it's easy to overdo it - take care of yourself ! :-)

hi muddy no they were some sort of willow i think, so not sure what the roots system is like with them, we have dug around the first stump and have a clear view of it now, once we have done the same with the other, hubby will get a chain saw and chop them away, once thats done we should be able to get some roots out while digging ground over, thats the plan anyway lol i will take your addvice and put some goodness back ready for any planting, the lads are doing most of the heavy work and im just digging surrounding ivy and bramble away, oh and making tea :o)) thanx muddy
