The Brazilian Pepper and Lantana are the worst weed trees, plants in our area. They pop up everywhere and are very difficult to eradicate...especially the pepper tree. I just pulled 20 Lantana seedling out of my potted plants 2 days ago.

Yes, Lantana is horrible...however, Brazilian Pepper tree is the absolute worst! From what I've read it's taking over large areas of the Everglades in Florida. The roots will kill many plants in close proximity...nothing will usually grow under this tree and the roots exude toxins. It is very difficult to eradicate!
I have a pink Lantana which popped up by itself about 3 years ago...I've allowed only the one to stay. I know it must be from a very large 12 foot / 3.7 x 20+ foot/ 6.1+ meters wide plant in the neighborhood. The birds are the reason for the spread of this plant. We're going to have millions popping up with all the rain we've had this year. : > /

We have a variety of Pepper Tree over here that is classed as an environmental weed too ... it's the Californian Pepper Tree - Schinus areira!!!!

Bernieh:
I believe Schius areira is a synonym for Schinus molle - California Pepper tree which does grow wild here. It is virtually impossible to grow anything under this tree. Also, it can grow into a massive tree. It is a somewhat liked weed tree here especially in a park or open space area...for the yard it's just too messy.

Have to agree as lantana is a curse over here ... it's so widespread in the bushland around here that there are clumps of it measuring over 10 metres wide by at least 3 metres high!! It pops up everywhere and resists every attempt to kill it off.
