Agave attenuata - Foxtail Agave, Swan's Neck Agave

These Foxtail Agave Plants were blooming just on the east side of the Cabrillo Bridge in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. These plants are extremely common...many times naturalizing in San Diego and other cities in California. Photo taken Feb. 16, 2010.

I have several pics of this plant posted on GoY. They are so very common here.

They bloom like this because all the flowers will develop little plantlets...then they drop to the ground and grow.

They initially grow upright, until the plantlets start developing from the flowers on top...then the weight pulls the top down.
