Many thanks to Mr MB for his advice on growing this plant - I didn't even know which way up to plant the 'corms'! Now it's shooting up and even has a flower appearing.

I decided (with advice!) to plant the corms in pots and keep them in the frost-free greenhouse over the winter. I started them off on September 1st. So they've taken quite a while to emerge!
I saw this plant at Wisley in the spring - and ordered them then. I don't think I'll plant them out, as they disappear from view in the autumn.
Thanks Sandra - I'll be posting more photos as they grow!

Wow! look at that - strong pink colour in February! Amazing! Are you going to keep them in the greenhouse all year round then?

How pretty and so delicate looking. :o)

Very pretty , I haven't seen this one before .......

I think I might keep them in the g'house, yes, or possibly in a bigger pot outside - depending on the weather!

Lovely plants...

Thanks, Uma. It was new to me, before I saw it at the RHS garden last year.

Growing some plants of this one in my garden. Love them very much, as they are the first plants flowering in early Spring I have. And very fast spreading.

Really? How do you get round the difficulty of knowing where the 'corms' are planted?
26 Feb, 2010
Sometimes I think that things like this, if they are hardy, would deserve a special trough or a dedicated alpine or rock garden etc. Having said that, I don't know if I could be trusted to leave even that undisturbed!!

That really is the problem, isn't it. It needs full sun, too, so my book tells me. I really don't think I want to plant it out!

I love the soft colours of this Corydalis. Just the one Spritz, then I can understand the indescision. Why not buy another to try in the garden? It is hardy and should 'do' alright.

I have two pots - so maybe I will! I'll have to mark its position carefully, though. :-)))

Its lovely is'nt it..

Spritz
After saying yesterday mine were not showing I looked this morning and they are coming up
The Corydalis Solida type that you are growing is perfectly hardy her in the West and for me grows and increase better out of pots, as you are not that familer with them they die back within weeks of flowering so a marker is a must .Places they are succesfull with me include trough planted with snowdrops and cyclamen.and in containers with a Maple,Camelias & Rhododenrons there are also red ones in the open ground under a large Acer Disectum this way they are safe from the fork ,they do seed as well and I have some strange shades from deep purple to very pale pink ,sometimes seed is ripe low down on the stems before they finish flowering the pods open with green seed.one day its there next gone so you have to be vigilant,I think louise had a couple last autumn I wonder how they are doing

Thanks, Bjs - I'll have to ask her! I will take a look round to see if there's anywhere I could plant them safely. After all - they're outside at Wisley!

Spritzhenry, they are very hardy and I don't take them out of the ground. Have a flowerbed where they are naturalized among Scillas, Ficarias, Asarums and Ferns under Sambucus nigra. They feel good there...:)

I have just identified 'George Baker' out in the garden. It is just above the ground and in bud, but now sitting there feeling sorry for itself in the, once again, frozen frozen ground. I would normally expect it to be in flower by 1 March but everything is so late this year.

Poor George Baker - he does sound unhappy - who can blame him? :-((
Uma - maybe I need to rethink keeping him in the greenhouse. As long as I mark the spot where he's planted, he should be safe. Thanks for your advice. x

He does make a nice pot plant for the coldframe.

My coldframe is errrr...full, Mr MB! lol.

Then you will just have to get another, Spritz!!!!!

That's what happened with my greenhouse! We really have filled the space now. It's a choice between the cold g'house and the soil! :-)

This is the one I saw for sale yesterday Barbara, wish I'd bought it now. :o((
Can't blame you for not wanting to plant outside as things do get forgotten, then dug up, or something else planted so close it spoils it. I've got that happening with my P.quakers bonnet & a dog tooth violet of the same colour. So one of them has got to be moved, but which one ~~~

I should take another photo - it's grown a lot since I took this to show Bulbaholic. It's very pretty! Shame you didn't buy it. :-((( Decisions, decisions!
