First Flower of the Year (Clerodendrum ugandense (Blue glory bower))

Ladies & Gentlemen,, I give you Clerodendrum Ugandense!!!!!!
One of my favourite plants has just given me my first flower of 2010 (not including my orchids).
I was going to try & keep this a nice compact plant, but I've changed my mind - I'm going to see just how large it can get whilst still producing masses of flowers.

UNUSUAL AND PRETTY TOO!

Meanie:

This shrub grows very quickly and can grow very tall...in a pot I think it can grow to 5 feet. It's commonly grown in the ground here...it attains a height of 12 - 15 feet.

It's positively sprinting now! I'm really amazed at how the roots have filled the pot over the winter in my conservatory.

Meanie:

Clerodendron species have huge fibrous root systems...when grown in pot the roots have to be pruned after they bloom. Although, Clerodendron ugandense tends to blooms all year. (in San Diego, CA anyway)

I have clerodendrum quadriloculare - Starburst bush which is quite spectacular in bloom however, it has so many roots...and has lots suckers.

Meanie:

Clerodendrum quadriloculare is one of the more spectacular blooming species.

Delonix; it certainly is a desirable looking plant, The trouble is my conservatory is rapidly filling up over the winter.
