Sorry, Lori, it is purely ornamental. Nice to look at, but...the smell!! A bit like cat pee (can't think how else to write the description).

there are some ever greens with that aroma too... BIG LOL.
So...??? what's the attraction...just the colour, I guess, aye? My dad purchased a currant bush and was so excited the first spring..lots of blossom and fruit...and then some kind of larva...defoliated the whole bush! My Dad never used pesticides...he just chocked it up to "live'n'learn". Next season same story... oh well. some things are never meant to be.

Aye, Lori, just the colour. It doesn't last very long, but it gives a splash of brightness In March and April. Unfortunately, I have to almost stick my face in it each time I get out of the car. I don't have a fruiting redcurrant, just blackcurrant, gooseberry and, most recently, blueberry. The gooseberry was wholly defoliated by something last summer, but after we got the berries. It is back in full leaf now, though.

Do you make jelly with these? Wow if all that blossom becomes fruit...yummy. Or is it just ornamental?
