Costa Rican Bamboo Palm is probably one of the most widely grown outdoor Chamaedorea species in California. They grow in semi-shade to almost full sun. Photo taken at Paradise Point Resort, Mission Bay, San Diego, CA. on Feb. 26, 2010.

Thanks! : > )
This palm is grown easily as a houseplant. It grows quickly and without many pest problems. The only issue indoors is...it will grow very tall, to more than 20 feet/ 6.1 meters tall.

I have Chamaedorea: radicalis (many), erumpens, seifrizii (many), adscendens, plumosa (many), elegans (many), hooperiana, stolonifera, benziei, ernesti-agusti, oblongata (many), klotzschiana, tepejilote (many), metallica, nationsiana, schippii, costaricana (many), glaucifolia, and those are just the ones I can remember right now. I have dozens of several of these species. All these palms are in my front and back gardens.

it sounds more like a park than a garden to me ~ is it a very big garden?
12 Feb, 2013
It's more like a botanical gardens (that's what most people say). I have more than a thousand plants/trees.
Yes, the front yard is large and back yard is not quite so large and it's shrinking because there's so many plants and trees back there. lol! :>)
12 Feb, 2013
i can imagine the shrinking! but how amazing to have so many plants,
how long does it take to water or do you have an irrigation system?
12 Feb, 2013
Yes, it amazing to have many plant, it's a lot of
work sometimes to keep everything healthy, though.
It can take me two hours to water everything. I have to water every day from spring - fall.
12 Feb, 2013
thats a lot of work but those plants are well worth it
13 Feb, 2013
Yes, they're worth it...and I have very few casualties. It's typically when it's super hot when the plants suffer the most.
