Crocuses White & yellow on balcony 2009-02-21 003 (Crocus chrysanthus (Crocus))

This was how one of the pots looked like in February 2009 but a month later this year & nothing is as advanced as they were last year!

I have found this too, looking back at March last year and everything is much more devloped and colourful. I did read in GW that most plants are 3 weeks behind due to the severe winter weather.

Yes, you're right, PP. This morning they were talking about Daffs on BBC Breakfast. They said they were 3 or 4 weeks behind. Normally they would be in full bloom by now but not this year. I still have to see my first Daff open this year! I've seen some with a tiny amount of yellow in the bud but not open yet.

I have some mini-daffs on my balcony & they have been in the most sheltered corner of my balcony & even they are only just now beginning to show a touch of yellow. I've just had another look at them & there is one flower half open & several more that will open in a day or two.

mine are just showing buds but guess it will be the end of the month before the colour emerges!

I saw one or two almost open at the Women's Institute garden a couple of days ago. The first this year!

I took a photo of the mini daffs in a corner of my balcony this morning. They are just opening! They grow, underplanted, in a pot with a standard Fuchsia. They have lived there happily for at least 4, perhaps 5 years!

Just had a peep at my Tete Tete planted in pots they also are just beginning to open ;0))

I took a 2nd photo of mine this morning & I found that the new ones I planted last year in the pot with a Camellia, planted in acid compost & watered with water from the tumble dryer, which we also use for the iron, are now flowering as well so I took a picture of them as well!

These last Tete-a-Tete daffs were bought by my wife last year as a clearance offer at the supermarket where she works. When the bulbs had finished I put them on the balcony. Once the foliage had died I took them out of the cardboard pot & put them in the Camellia pot.

I took more photos of my lovely Crocuses this morning after coming home from Church. As we have a strong wind this morning I've not taken them out of the greenhouse. I put the pots in the greenhouse at night when frost is forecast. Not for the Crocuses but for the Fuchsia cuttings from last year as they share the same pots. I'm not sure if they are hardy so I give them a little protection at night. Some of the Fuchsia cuttings are now beginning to sprout.
