They're scavengers, Louise and Homebird so Misty is safe! They only weigh between 2 and 3 pounds and a lot of that is wing! They estimate there are between 400 and 500 breeding pairs in the Chilterns now - isn't that great?

We're lucky around here too. Last summer I was lucky enough to see 6 out at once.
For such a big bird of prey to be basically carrion eaters/scavengers surprises a lot of people. I didn't know until a couple of years ago that they will forage for grubs & the like.

In the 17th century they were considered a pest in London.
